Non-butyl degreasers are typically a blend of special non-ionic surfactants and water conditioning agents such as phosphates or silicates.  This class of cleaners is commonly used in general cleaning of light industrial floors and areas that are not heavily contaminated with carbon soils.  These cleaners may also be selected for their relative low cost.

Heavy Duty Butyl Degreasers are the workhorses of industry and are developed for serious cleaning.  Industrial greases and oils are lifted from the surface and held in suspension with these blends of water-based solvents, alkaline builders and special emulsifiers.  Carbon based soils are no match for this category of cleaners.

Citrus-based degreasers are very effective and may be a better choice than butyl-based cleaners for some soil or surface conditions.  D'Limonine and soy-based cleaners are much more pleasant to work with and may be a better choice for personal safety.  Citrus and soy solvents have excellent penetrating power and are more biodegradable than petroleum solvents.
